How to clean your birdhouse or birdfeeder.
If you have a birdhouse or birdfeeder exposed to the outdoor elements with feeding and nesting birds, it's going to get dirty and need to be cleaned. This can be a very simple and easy process.
| *Clean your birdhouse or birdfeeder at least once a year.
Wait until the nesting birds have hatched and left for the season. Early
fall is a good time to clean your birdfeeders, before the winter feeding
season begins.
| *Wear rubber gloves for the cleaning process.
| *Fill a bucket with warm water and a small amount of scent-free
liquid soap or detergent and give it a gentle washing with a soft brush or
rag.
| *Empty the bucket and refill with warm water and a couple of
cups of white distilled vinegar or diluted bleach and wash it again. Use
an old toothbrush to clean the hard to reach areas.
| *Rinse gently with a garden hose.
| *Let dry, before reuse. | |
An occasional cleaning can go a long way toward keeping your birdhouse or birdfeeder free of disease and fungus and create a healthy and attractive addition to your home. |
